Monthly Fishing Reports:

Striper fishing report for Mid-July:

Striper fishing right now is as good as it gets. My best day this month so far was 40 stripers in one day....with 4 over 20 lbs. Now that is a day of fishing right there! We ran out of bait and continued catching them power reeling Capt. Macks 2 oz. bucktails with big chartreuse shad bodies until my clients were worn out. Fishing continues to be good north and south in the mouths of the creeks. We have caught a few in the river channels but these fish have been harder to catch for me. As for the trolling bite I have caught a few on leadcore but with the lake level being down I seem to catch more trees than fish sometimes. I might use this method more when the fish move out to the main channel later this month. For now the best tactic has been to downline bluebacks 30-60 feet deep over 60-100 feet of water and CHANGE BAIT OFTEN. If your marking fish and they won't bite change your bait and also try dropping below them and reel the bait up fast past them. If you can get one to bite watch your other rods because sometimes all it takes is one to bite then its ON they will hit every rod thats out on some occasions. The next 6-8 weeks fishing can be as good as it gets so don't miss out on the action!

Late May:

The striper fishing has been good with some days being incridible. We have caught them well down south and up north. Flatlines and downlines have been producing lately with blueback herring. The stripers really have not been hitting topwater very good lately but we have caught a few on Redfins, Sammies, and chugbugs. Just expect to do a lot of casting with little if any results. On a recent trip with 3 clients we boated over 25 stripers by 9:30 AM before the action slowed down. And the fishing is just going to get better over the next few weeks so call now before the season is booked up.

March 2008:

Striper fishing has been just like the weather lately. One day you may catch some great numbers and the next struggle for a fish. Your best bet right now is flatlines and planer boards with trout, bluebacks and gizzard shad. Also cast white bucktails or white flukes to surfacing fish. And if the fish are not rolling you can blind cast. Expect to do a lot of non productive casting if you don't see the fish rolling. I would fish the backs to middle of the creeks all over the lake. We have caught some big fish in the stained water in the backs of the creeks. Also look for the birds this is a good indication that the stripers are pushing bait to the top. But approach them slowly or you will just scare all of them off. The fishing is just going to get better and better as the weather warms so book now for a trip you will not forget.

October 2007 - February 2008:

With Lake Lainer's current water levels and the closing of most boat ramps, there are no fishing reports available.

September 2007:

Striper fishing report for September: Fishing has been like a roller coaster lately. One day may be absolutely on fire and the next day the fish will be scattered and almost impossible to catch. Fish south of Browns Bridge to the Dam in the main lake channel and mouths of the creeks in 90-135 feet of water.Early in the day you could take a look on points that are 40 feet deep or so. I have caught a few on the points early morning. The best method lately has been trolling leadcore 9 colors out with a 1 oz. Captain Mack bucktail tipped with a chartreuse trailer or blueback herring. I have also caught fish on the chrome color cisco kid deep diver about 7-8 colors out. Troll these until you find a decent school of fish then downline your blueback herring 35-90 feet deep depending on where you are marking them at that time. If you troll for a while and can't find any good schools the fish are probably scattered so go where you marked the most fish and try sitting and waiting with downlines and change your bait often as this will increase your chances having fresh lively bait. I have seen a couple of stripers busting top water right at day light but not enough to even bother casting to. But I would start to look for the top water action to start in a few weeks if the water temp gets down to around 75 degrees.

August 2007:

Not Available.

July 2007:

Striper fishing is incredible right now. Downline bluebacks fished from 35-60 feet deep over 60-100 foot bottom have produced well in all the major creeks and in the river channel. Trolling has been fair on leadcore fished 8-9 colors out with a 1 or 1.5 ounce bucktail jig with chartruese trailers or tipped with bluebacks. Some days you may have to troll for a while to find the fish but when you do you can drop live bait to them and catch some good numbers of fish.Fishing is as good as it gets right now so get out and lets go fishing!

June 2007:

Striper Fishing is great right now. From now until the end of August will be some of the best fishing of the year. Currently, a variety of methods are working; downlining blueback herring 20-35 feet deep out over the river channel has been the best method. Trolling bucktail jigs on lead-core line 7-8 colors out and umbrella rigs fished 90 feet behind the boat are also successful. Look for this pattern to continue through the summer months.

May 2007:

Stripers-Fishing has been good the water temps are rising and are running around 74 degrees. The Redfins, Chug Bugs, and Sammies are still catching a few fish early in the morning. Down south fish flatlines 30-60 feet behind the boat on main lake points and in the mouth of major creeks. Up north flatlines and down lines are both working. Best of luck fishing if you have any more questions about the fishing report or fishing tactics you can call me at 404-488-2838 or email me at alldayfishing@gmail.com Thanks, Jeremy Day.
